Science fiction conventions in Portland (as well as our sponsoring organization OSFCI itself) got their start in 1978 with the PorSFiS Symposium, a one-day event at Portland State University. A group of us brought back that tradition with a small SF literary event this summer, Symposium 2026, helping fill the gap left by the demise of OryCon. This one-day event was a reach out to the fans who have enjoyed Portland area literary events and embraced their enthusiasm for science fiction & fantasy writing in books, films, and television. It gave us an opportunity to honor the career and achievements of Steve Perry. An unexpected challenge was a semi taking out 7 power poles in the neighborhood 18 hours before the event. However, one hour before the event, power was restored (although onstreet parking was lost for the entire day.) |
